Design Studio Primer or what you need to know before ordering your Humanscale Liberty chair:

Arms- All Liberty ‘Adjustable’ arms have a height adjustment range of 5″. They have a natural lift and release action with no buttons or engagement switches to fail or fuss with. Unlike other office chairs, they are attached to the back so that when you recline the arms stay with you. The arm caps are done in a variety of ways. The most popular version is the Duron arm that has a soft and pliable black self skinned rubberized cap. The gel arm has a layer of gel but is capped off with the Duron material. The arm caps can also be configured so that the textile that you have selected on your mesh back desk chair will also be used to cover the arm cap itself. Most of our customers select the Height Adjustable Duron version while others select the increasingly popular Gel arm.

Seat Foam- All Humanscale Liberty chairs have a very high quality molded seat foam that is perfectly adequate for most sitters. You can also add a layer of non-compressible Technogel for increased comfort on the seat. Gel seat options are not available if you select any of the leathers.

NEW Chrome-Free Leathers– Humanscale is committed to using materials and manufacturing processes that are safe and sustainable. Their leathers are ‘alternatively tanned’ by Wollsdorf Leather – a carbon neutral tannery using synthetic vegetable tanning free from heavy metals. Most traditional processes use chromium, a harmful chemical to the environment and to you! The result is a premium leather that exceeds industry standards in performance and durability. 

Box Stitching on Leather – Humanscale will use a contrasting or matching thread as illustrated above when they build your chair using one of their premium grade leathers. Customers go both ways on this option. Some like the contrasting colors while others prefer the more subdued and monochromatic stitch pattern. 

Frame Finishes- Humanscale Liberty chairs can be configured with Black, Silver or Polished Aluminum frame options.

Cylinder Options – The standard Humanscale Freedom chair is built with the most popular seat height cylinder which is 5 inches (pneumatic piston that raises and lowers the chair) and fits 95% of the population. If you are over 6’2″ we suggest you opt for the ‘Tall’ option. You may also pick a foot ring if you are using the ‘Tall’ option which is nice if you tend to sit at a higher than normal worksurface or just want a place to rest your feet other than the floor!

Casters- The standard caster on the Humanscale Liberty chair is the carpet style twin disc. You may also select a ‘Soft Caster’ for hard floor surfaces as well as stationary glides (if you do not want your mesh back desk chair moving around).

Silver Check
This brilliant weave of monofilament strands and silver-coated yarns offers resiliency and
durability. The award-winning mesh textile was designed to provide optimal ergonomic
support and comfort by melding strength and flexibility. Like Humanscale’s other meshes,
Silver Check has a low abrasion factor and is extremely gentle on clothing.

Monofilament Stripe

This award-winning mesh textile was designed to provide optimal ergonomic support and comfort
by melding strength, flexibility and resiliency. Using only monofilament yarns that are thin and strong,
a simple but classic stripe pattern is achieved through weave structure and yarn placement. This
pattern has slight elasticity, but terrific memory.

Content: 82% Polyester, 18% Nylon

Dash

Dash-one of the latest mesh innovations from Elizabeth Whelan Design-was inspired by the
way in which the color appears and then disappears, creating a colored “dash” across the fabric
surface. Dash combines a variety of elements to be as strong, lightweight and responsive as
possible. With a distinct pattern and small scale, Dash carries color brilliantly and densely for a
beautiful result.

Pinstripe

Pinstripe is a lightweight mesh, that still manages to provide the strength and support of a much
heavier mesh, by using two different monofilament stretch yarns to provide firmness and excellent
recovery of the fabric. Only the pinstripe yarns take the dye, and the monofilament yarns are
grey instead of black, giving a more neutral background to the pattern and allowing light to pass
through the fabric.
